2010 Award Categories

Ship Yard of the Year

This award recognises a ship yard and/or shipbuilder in Asia that has consistently met the needs of its customers in these times of tight capacity. Entries will be judged based on the ability of the yard to off er cost eff ective and quality services while keeping a keen eye on safety. For shipbuilders, criteria include the on time delivery of quality vessels that cater to buyer requirements and showcase innovative designs while adhering to high environmental standards.

Container Terminal Operator of the Year

Our panel of judges will decide which container terminal operator has, in the country or countries they operate, provided the most comprehensive range of excellent and effi cient services, fast turnaround of vessels, and that has gone that extra mile with value-added services to keep the region’s liner trades running smoothly.

The Classification Society Award

This award goes to the classification society that has made the greatest contribution to creating a safe and environmentally friendly shipping industry as demonstrated through a commitment to quality and innovation through the development lifecycle from design to building and maintenance of the region’s shipping fleet.

The Ship Manager of the Year

An award that recognises the manager that has provided the highest quality of safe and professional vessel management services while at the same time controlling costs and ensuring efficient running of its client’s fleet.

The Ship of the Year

This award goes to a new vessel that demonstrates innovation in design or operational efficiency. In particular the judges will be looking for a ship delivered within the last 12 months that has made strides in terms of environmentally friendly operations and safety measures.

The Training and Crewing Award

Honouring the training institution and/or crew manager that has made the greatest contribution to ensuring that seafarers are trained to the highest standards and meet the demands of today's technologically advanced vessels, and endeavours to provide quality officers and ratings for the future.

Best Provider of Maritime Support Services

This award goes to the organisation, company or individual that has provided excellence in support to the maritime industry. Such service providers include, but are not limited to, insurance companies, banks and financial institutions, and law firms that have demonstrated a strong focus and commitment to their clients in Asia.

The Logistics Award

This award goes to the shipping or logistics company that has worked with shippers not only to provide ocean transportation but a total logistics package with a full end to end supply management across both the sea and land sectors within Asia and destinations outside of the region.

This award recognises any Asia-based individual, crew, company or organisation whose act, initiative or product has contributed to improving the safety of the industry off shore or onshore, ensuring the safest working environment possible.

This award goes to the crew of a vessel that have shown exceptional courage, humanity and seamanship.

Our judges will be looking for the company that has shown a dedication and commitment to promoting environmental protection. The contribution could include, but is not restricted to, ship design, company-wide environmental policy, or successful policy eff ort on the part of a public official with maritime responsibility.

Tanker Owner Award

Recognising the Asia-headquartered tanker owner that maintains the highest standards of operations, and excellence in service to its charters in this key and highly environmentally sensitive sector of the shipping industry.

The editorial staff of Lloyd’s List will select a fi gure from the shipping, insurance or energy industries who they feel has made the greatest impact on the development of shipping and world trade over the past 12 months.

This award recognises an individual that has, over the course of his or her career, contributed to the well-being of the industry in a profound way. In past contests, Lloyd’s List exclusively named the winner. This year, we welcome submissions on behalf of the candidate.
