Environmental Protection Award

This award honours the institution, company or individual that has done the most to fight towards reducing the pollution of our oceans from maritime sources. The contribution could include, but is not restricted to, ship design, company-wide environmental policy, or successful policy effort on the part of a public official with maritime responsibility.

Company of the Year

The calendar year 2009 contained some dreadful news for shipping, and yet many companies became adept at facing the challenges of the dramatic falloff in trade, collapsing rates and managing its order book deliveries given the changing financial conditions. This award goes to the company best at adapting to the new conditions quickly by trimming costs, proving nimbler in negotiations with partners, and generally finding creative solutions to prepare the business for more robust market.

The senior staff of Lloyd's List editorial team will select a person from shipping or one of its service industries that has influenced a major aspect of the news agenda in 2009.
